About Gatheramics
Gatheramics stands for Ceramic Gathering, a place for people to get together and have hands on experience with clay (pottery clay and clay flower a.k.a resin clay) after a busy day from work or for a half day hobby at the weekend.
The Gatheramics team of instructors not only shares knowledge, but importantly, passes on our combined skills, which we have gathered from our accumulated experiences, from many different parts of the world.
Living in a metropolitan city like Hong Kong, we are surrounded by perfectly machine made products, indeed every convenience. We often take for granted how things are made, but if we take a closer look and think about the initial stages of the design process, many objects are often inspired by nature, where variety and diversity are naturally occurring. Here in the studio, you will also have the opportunity to design and make functional objects or pieces of art whose natural characteristics are as welcome and unique as you.
Just as with a simple cup from which we drink every day, it can easily be overlooked how cleverly it was designed and how uniquely different it can be from another, in terms of shape, colours and texture.
You may easily become emotionally attached to a piece of artwork, such as a cup, when you spend time and great care making it with your own hands, from start to finish, all by yourself! You will find it is very satisfying. You can decide on the shape of handle for a unique look or you can make the body to fit in your own hands perfectly when holding it. Moreover, you can even decide which clays to use, ranging from low fired red terra-cotta, textured yellowish stoneware, to high fired pure porcelain. All is down to your own preference, a one off piece, made as uniquely as you.
If you would like to create miniature objects, either from your imagination or in imitation of the natural world, resin clay particularly is a great material for this purpose. Our resident clay flower instructors have many years experience working with this material, and they would love to share with you their experience and knowledge.
We hope that Gatheramics will be a welcoming and pleasant platform for art-lovers to gather together, so as to explore and experience the materials, as well as to develop their own ideas and turn them into three dimensional forms.
Come and join us for our creative hand making journey – see you soon!
